Porche Boxster
Porche are probably one of the only super car manufacturers that I really don't like. Not because they're rubbish and not because German but for one very simple reason. They have the laziest design department in the world and that really annoys me. I think they get too much credit for cars that have looked the same since God was a boy. And there is no exception for the "New" Porche Boxster which has been launched at this weeks Bologna Auto Show. There are a few people who think they may have changed the look of the rear wheels and if they have there's only a tiny difference. No one was that impressed with the 911 (maybe because it looks identical to the last one) and the Cayenne looks about as good as my mates after an all night house party until about 6.00am. So they didn't bother with that either.
Getting back to the Boxster, they seem to have put no effort into this one either! What is wrong with them, they are supposed to be German and they acting as if they are from a country where they can't afford a designer to make the damn thing look decent. But as we are told every day of our lives "It's not all about the looks" so I'm going to try and get my head round its plain boring ugliness and tell you a little more about its engineering. The base model has a 2.7 liter engine and drives pretty well. People have mentioned the fact that the gear changes can be bit doggy and not as good as what was expected from Porche. Through the bends this car is definitely strongest. It holds and holds and holds, you're waiting for it to just let go but it doesn't. Although unless you arse is 25 inches thick with fat you are always going to know what is happening on the bottom of the car. The roar of the engine is another thing it was praised for, it does sound amazing makes you want just go driving it for ever!
I said at the beggining that I didn't like porche but I also said it wasn't because they were rubbish. The only reason you would ever get a boxster is if you couldn't afford a 911 and I would prefer the 911 to the boxster because the boxster feels like a bit of a copy. The not so good version of the 911 and so why get a boxster when you get the same amount of greatness from another manufacturer. But on the other hand being German it has great technicle stuff. The Sat Nav can find its way round like a pigeon. There are 2 boots and an electronic roof, not to mention the button which alows you to have fun (this button turns the suspension hard). I still feel a bit sorry for it though because it is always going to have to live in the shadow of the 911 and that's not a pretty shadow to live in.
